2022 Maruti Suzuki YFG Interior Spied

Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming mid-sized SUV will offer many premium features and equipment, as suggested by our latest spy photos

Maruti Suzuki is building a new mid-sized SUV for India in partnership with Toyota. This upcoming SUV is currently being tested on the road and during one of the test drives, the folks at our sister publication – Gaadiwale – got a taste of the interior. Despite the heavy disguise surrounding the cabin, there’s plenty of clues here about what’s to come.

The dashboard design is completely new, with a large floating touchscreen infotainment system in the middle. This will likely be a 9-inch touchscreen unit running on the brand’s new SmartPlay Pro Plus system that’s also available on the new Baleno. We also see a multifunctional steering wheel, with integrated controls for the audio and cruise control systems.

We can now confirm that this new Maruti SUV – codenamed ‘YFG’ – will feature a Head-Up Display (HUD) and 360-degree parking camera. We expect that ventilated front seats will also be offered here. Interestingly, the vehicle will have a blue start/stop button, which could indicate a strong hybrid powertrain. According to speculation, this new SUV will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a hybrid system from Toyota.

Apart from that, this future SUV could also get a mild-hybrid powertrain or a turbo petrol engine. We can’t confirm the powertrain details just yet, until more details leak online. As for the space on offer, it seemed quite adequate in our visual assessment, comparable to Hyundai Creta and significantly better than the outgoing Maruti S-Cross.

It also appears that Maruti YFG will be built on Suzuki’s Global-C platform, not Toyota’s DNGA platform. We believe so because the test mule bears an uncanny resemblance to the Suzuki Vitara available in international markets. However, the front and rear have been thoroughly restyled for the Indian market.

Toyota’s version – codenamed ‘D22’ – will also be launched in India around the same time as Maruti’s version, that is, around the Diwali holidays this year. It will have differences in interior and exterior styling, to differentiate itself from its Maruti twins. Toyota will be responsible for the manufacturing aspect for both brands.
