Aishwarya Sakhuja, best known for starring in the TV show Saas Bina Sasural, revealed in a recent interview with ETimes that she was afflicted with Ramsay Hunt syndrome about eight years ago. Singer Justin Bieber also revealed his diagnosis earlier this month in an Instagram video, in which he opened up about coping with partial facial paralysis. “As you can see, this eye won’t blink, I can’t smile on this side of my face, this nostril won’t move,” the singer said in the video. Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a complication that affects the facial nerve near one ear and can lead to facial paralysis and in some cases cause hearing loss.
Coming back to Aishwarya Sakhuja, the actress revealed that she was struck by your syndrome while filming a TV show in 2014. “This happened while I was shooting for the show. Chief Naa Bhoolungi (2014). We were shooting back-to-back as a wedding sequence was coming up. I vividly remember having a 2pm shift the next day and the night before, Rohit (her husband) kept asking me why I was winking at him. I thought this was one of his stupid jokes and didn’t respond to it. The next morning, when I went to brush my teeth, I struggled to keep water in my mouth while rinsing. At the time, I also thought it was effort,” Aishwarya told ETimes.
She added: “I couldn’t take a day off because we didn’t have a series of episodes ready. So I continued shooting. The cast and crew were very helpful and they tried to shoot in such a way that half of my face was not visible. ” The actress added: “We somehow managed to shoot and I went the next day for my scan where it was confirmed I had been affected by Ramsay Hunt syndrome and had to be given steroids.”
The actress revealed she made a full recovery within a month, saying, “The steroids were extremely heavy and even heavier was the emotional turmoil because as an actor my face is everything.”
