Aditya Chopra blames Akshay Kumar’s lack of dedication for Samrat Prithviraj failure: Report

Akshay Kumara
Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chhillar starrer Samrat Prithviraj, which was made on a huge budget, failed to impress the public and turned out to be a colossal box office failure. The directing of Dr Chandrapakash Dwivedi was Yash Raj Films’ second major flop in a row after Ranveer Singh headlined Jayeshbhai Jordaar

Based on the epic poem of the Braj language The Prithviraj Raso, Samrat Prithviraj is said to have a budget of Rs 300 but is expected to wrap under Rs 100 crore at the counters. With producers suffering heavy losses, a recent report has surfaced that the makers of the film have blamed Akshay Kumar for its failure.

YRF head honcho Aditya Chopra is reportedly annoyed with his leading man for not showing more dedication to the project. “He wouldn’t listen. The film required a dedicated concentration. He didn’t even want to grow a real mustache, because he was working on another project at the same time. If he was playing someone so historically important, why wouldn’t he just have done this one project and put his best effort into it?” a source was quoted by National Herald

The captain of the ship Dr. Dwivedi reflected on the failure of his ambitious film in an interview a few days ago. “We didn’t understand the mood of the people. We made the movie on a large scale, but people couldn’t connect with the movie. Still don’t understand what’s going on with them. The writers did their work with the utmost sincerity. We have not tampered with the facts of history. We understand this responsibility very well,” he told The times of India

After two back-to-back failures, YRF hopes to come back with Ranbir Kapoor starrer shamshera, which is expected to be released on July 22. Karan Malhotra director’s first teaser has been revealed and the film looks promising. It also features Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt.

As for Akshay, he will be seen next in Aanand L Rai’s Raksha Bandhan next to Bhumi Pednekar. The film hits theaters on August 11.
