Afghanistan Earthquake Live Updates:

“A massive earthquake shook four districts of Paktika province, killing and injuring hundreds of our compatriots and destroying dozens of homes,” Bilal Karimi, a deputy spokesman for the Taliban government, wrote separately on Twitter.

“We urge all aid agencies to immediately dispatch teams to the area to prevent further disasters.” The neighboring Pakistan Meteorological Department posted the 6.1 magnitude earthquake. Quakes were felt in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad and elsewhere in the eastern province of Punjab.

Pakistan is located in an active seismic zone and is frequently visited by earthquakes of varying magnitude. This is the second earthquake in a week after a 5.2 on the Richter scale that shook parts of the country on June 17. (@abdulkadir/Twitter screen grab)

Meanwhile, an earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale shook parts of Pakistan on Wednesday, the meteorological department said. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the epicenter of the quake was 44 km southwest of Khost in Afghanistan at a depth of 50.8 km and the exact time was 01:54 AM (local time).
