After Galaxy S22, Samsung Galaxy S21 gets a proper Vo5G/VoNR

After the Samsung Galaxy S22, the Galaxy S21 can now call with Vo5G or VoNR (Voice over 5G/Voice over New Radio). It may be the second phone in the world to support this feature and the first to get the service in the US. Also read – Samsung sued for copying this handy smartphone function

T-Mobile launches its Vo5G/VoNR service for the Galaxy S21

T-Mobile has announced its own Voice over 5G, also known as Voice over New Radio, in select regions of the United States. It appears that the company is experimenting with the services, although it is available to the public to try. The Voice over 5G service is available in the US cities of Portland, Salt Lake City and Oregon. And the Samsung Galaxy S21 is the only supported device listed by T-Mobile, at least for now. “At Samsung, we want to provide our users with the best possible 5G experience on any device — and today’s announcement is a big step forward,” said Jude Buckley, Executive Vice President, Mobile eXperience, Samsung Electronics America.

He further stated, “By supporting extensive integration, testing and partnering with an industry leader like T-mobile, we are bringing all the benefits of 5G technology to life using our Samsung Galaxy devices.”

While the Galaxy S21 is the only phone to get this service, T-Mobile also appears to be partnering with Nokia and Qualcomm. So we can also expect Vo5G support on some Nokia phones.

What is the advantage of Vo5G/VoNR?

With Vo5G/VoNR, users can make calls more clearly over the 5G network. The new technology is the potential successor to VoLTE that is available on most phones today. Just like VoLTE, expect faster calls and better speech clarity. The Vo5G technology also eliminates the indoor coverage issues during a normal call.

When will Vo5G/VoNR come to India?

Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio are currently the two major telecom players aiming to bring a 5G network to India. According to newer reports, the 5G rollout will take place in August this year, which is just a month away. But don’t expect enough stability as it will be the first phase of the 5G for India. That said, a true 5G will first be set up in India in the coming months and soon we can expect Vo5G/VoNR to be operational in the country.
