Motorola and OnePlus were both gearing up for major launch events on August 2 and 3. While Motorola was set to launch its third edition of the foldable Razr phone alongside the Moto Edge X30 Pro, OnePlus would debut the OnePlus Ace Pro, the brand’s first Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 phone. However, it appears that last minute developments in the country have prompted both companies to cancel their launch event.
Motorola’s August 2 event was suddenly canceled just hours before the launch event was due to take place. Lenovo General Manager for China, Chen Jin announced the same via a Weibo post (first seen by android authority) and stated no apparent reason why the event was cancelled. Neither Lenovo nor Motorola have announced any new dates for any launch events yet.
Earlier today, Twitter tipster Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd) has suggested that OnePlus also cancels the OnePlus Ace Pro launch event today on August 3. No reason has been mentioned and no official statement from OnePlus has yet been received.
The launch of OnePlus Ace Pro has also been canceled for today.

What’s going on in China?
Geopolitical tensions are high in China after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi arrived in Taiwan on the evening of Aug. 2. The high-ranking American politician has been an outspoken critic of Chinese policy several times over the past decade. China is not happy with Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan and last week even warned US President Joe Biden not to “play with fire”.
International launches likely unaffected
The OnePlus Ace Pro will launch globally later today, including in India as the OnePlus 10T. The global phone launch event, which will take place in New York City on August 3, is unlikely to be affected by the cancellation of the launch in China.
