Alia Bhatt announced her first pregnancy with Ranbir Kapoor in late June, months after they tied the knot. “Our baby… is coming,” she wrote on social media. Days after the announcement, a report claimed Ranbir would travel to the UK where Alia was filming for her Hollywood debut Heart Of Stone, and would bring her back if she’s pregnant.
In response to the claims, Alia had argued: “Meanwhile, in the minds of some people, we still live in a patriarchal world. FYI, nothing has been delayed. No one has to pick up anyone. I’m a woman, not a package. I don’t need to rest at all, but good to know you also have a doctor’s note. This is 2022. Can we please get out of this archaic way of thinking? Now if you’ll excuse me. My shot is ready.”
Alia, candid about her anger behind the words, told GOODTimes that she finds such things extremely outdated and regressive. “If you’re actually going to say things like ‘oh, a woman’s life is turning upside down right now’ while writing a positive article, that’s a bit unfair. You don’t say that about the man, the man is also going to have the child. So why is it only for the woman?”
“The only reason I responded was because it was going for a hardcore comment, so it woke up the feminist in me with knives and all the guns. It’s not about me personally, you can say what you want about me, I don’t care* but if you’re commenting on a woman in general, who actually works since the beginning of (her) pregnancy. That’s what annoyed me. The fact that I didn’t respond made it clear that I did,” she added.
Alia recently appeared in Netflix’s Darlings, alongside Vijay Varma and Shefali Shah. She will next be seen in Brahmastra by Ranbir Kapoor, which will be released on September 9.
