With the new season starting soon, Barcelona find themselves in a state of trouble as they try to close their wage gap and register new signings.
Jules Kounde was the last name to join Barca this summer, joining an elite roster that includes Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha. But not even one of these new faces has been registered by the club.
With the Catalans currently in a difficult financial situation, they must sell their fringe players to generate cash and balance the books for the new season.
Frenkie de Jong has been suggested as the ideal candidate to leave the club, as he is currently on a lucrative salary package. The Dutchman is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in Spain and can also generate significant income which helps Barça register new players.
However, the midfielder has so far resisted all attempts to lure him away from the Camp Nou, with the player turning down Manchester United several times this season.
It appears that De Jong has no desire to move to Old Trafford as the Premier League giants cannot offer him Champions League football. But according to Diario AS, a new alternative has emerged in the form of Bayern Munich.
The report suggests that De Jong would prefer a switch to a top European giant who can offer him UCL football next season. A loan to Bayern for that purpose is increasingly becoming a possibility, although it remains to be seen whether the Bavarians are open to such a deal.
The German giants did strengthen their options earlier this summer by convincing Ajax’s Ryan Gravenberch. But with Leon Goretzka sustaining an injury, it will be interesting to see if Julian Nagelsmann sees the possibility of signing someone like De Jong on a rental basis.
