Bayern Munich began their quest to win an 11th consecutive Bundesliga title with an imperious 1-6 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. As the icing on the cake, their star signing Sadio Mané scored during the debut for the German giants. But it was Joshua Kimmich who gave the visitors the lead on Friday in the Deutsche Bank Park. And the home fans can be blamed for getting their team into trouble early in the game.

Home fans always seem to be the proverbial ’12th man’ for their team. Whether it’s the chants to pump up their team or even try to excite the opponent or the use of props such as torches and smoke, supporters try to make their stadiums as daunting as possible for the visiting opposition.

Frankfurt fans chose smoke as a means of celebrating the season opener against their much more fanatical opponents.

When Bayern Munich received a free-kick from the right from a distance, the smoke was thick, especially between the ball and the post.

Kimmich took the opportunity to curl a low free kick that came in through the near-post before Kevin Trapp could clamber over into the Frankfurt goal.

The smoke left the Frankfurt players caught off guard and Kimmich’s quick thinking skills and game awareness paid off for the visitors.

That goal just opened the floodgate when Benjamin Pavard doubled Bayern’s advantage six minutes later.

Mane headed in on a cross from Serge Gnabry to make it 3-0, before Thomas Muller scored for the former Arsenal winger and Jamal Musiala as Bayern went into halftime leading 5-0.

Randal Kolo Muani scored a consolation goal for Frankfurt but Bayern were not ready when Musiala scored his second goal of the evening to complete the defeat.
