Transfer czar Thomas Tuchel’s first move could be to sign some sort of deal to send Romelu Lukaku back to Inter Milan. It seems very clear what Romelu himself wants, and given that in recent months Tuchel has mainly used our signing our club records as a body to warm the benches, he probably won’t lose too much sleep over it either.
In recent weeks, Lukaku has been painted as a man feverishly grafting behind the scenes to realize this possibility, and all that hard work seems to be paying off. Both Gianluca Di Marzio and Fabrizio Romano report that Chelsea and Inter Milan are ready for “direct talks” after the groundwork laid by Lukaku and his intermediaries, and that certainly means we are at least willing to consider this possibility.
Of course, any agreement would probably involve a loan, maybe with an option, although we’d keep joint custody of his wages, so we’ve got that in front of us, which is terrible. Mistakes were made.
Inter and Chelsea will be in direct talks for Romelu Lukaku in the coming days, following contacts with the player – he is very keen to return to Inter. #CFC @MatteoBarzaghi @SkySport
It won’t be an easy deal as Chelsea spent £115m on Lukaku – and Inter can only try on loan. pic.twitter.com/T5ahUYcy7S
