China Threatens to Shoot Down Pelosi’s Flight, Pompeo Urges Her Not to Cancel Taiwan Trip

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi leaves this weekend for a trip to Asia, where she is expected to stop in Singapore, Japan and South Korea.

All eyes will be on the final leg of her journey, to see if she continues with her planned trip to Taiwan.

The US has not made it clear whether Nancy Pelosi will indeed land in Taipei and meet with Taiwan’s leaders, but the issue was raised earlier this week by Chinese President Xi Jinping during his virtual meeting with US President Joe Biden.

Xi ended the meeting warning Biden by telling him “not to play with fire.”

According to PoliticsPentagon officials prepare for Pelosi’s journey.

If Pelosi decides to make a stopover in Taiwan, she will land in Taipei with a US military plane.

But there’s a chance her plane could be shot down by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) air force jets.

Chinese state media commentator and Global Times editor Hu Xijin threatened on Twitter that Pelosi “will be forcibly evicted.”

“If American fighter jets escort the plane from Pelosi to Taiwan, that’s an invasion. The Chinese military has the right to forcibly dislodge Pelosi’s plane and US fighter jets, including firing warning shots and making tactical movements of obstacles. If they are ineffective, shoot them,” Xijin wrote in a tweet, which was later deleted for violating Twitter rules.

In his editorial, Hu said that Pelosi will pay the cost of ‘her performance’: “Basically, we have ways to increase the risk of Pelosi’s ‘performance’ by increasing attendance, significantly increasing the cost of her performance and reducing the price she Make Pelosi deeply realize that the island of Taiwan is not a place where she can run wild.”

Usually, such high-profile trips and itineraries are often kept secret, but a public scuffle online and offline has begun between Democrats and Republicans over the trip and could force Pelosi to go through with her planned visit to Taipei despite the warnings.

It is noteworthy that Pelosi is an expert when it comes to angering China, as evidenced by her visit to Beijing in 1991.

Pelosi was once evicted from Tiananmen Square after unfurling a banner without the consent of her Chinese hosts when she visited Beijing, two years after the Communist Party of China (CPC) crushed protesters.

However, former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he will accompany Nancy Pelosi on her potential trip to Taiwan. “Nancy, I’m coming with you. I’m banned in China, but not in freedom-loving Taiwan. See you there,” Pompeo tweeted.

Pompeo also told Biden not to give in to Xi’s threats: “CCP mouthpiece The Global Times threatens that Pelosi’s plane will be shot down if she visits Taiwan. President Biden must fully support this visit. Do not be weak and give in to the demands of petty warmongers and dictators in Beijing Support the freedom-loving people of Taiwan.

Home Secretary Gregory Meeks, a New York Democrat, said China should focus on responding to their human rights abuses in Xinjiang province. “We can’t be bullied by anyone,” Meeks said Politics.
