Ekta Kapoor reacts to Kangana Ranaut’s ‘sasti’ comment about Taapsee Pannu

Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel had called Taapsee Pannu her ‘sasti (cheaper)’ specimen. Now filmmaker Ekta Kapoor has responded to Kangana’s comment.

Taapsee Pannu stars in Dobaaraa, directed by Anurag Kashyap and produced by Ekta Kapoor. The trailer for the film was launched in Mumbai on Wednesday. At the event, Ekta was asked if Kangana Ranaut Taapsee called a “sasta (cheaper)” version of herself. The producer responded to the question by saying that it was not up to her or the media to “play them off against each other.” Ekta added that there was “only one similarity” between Kangana and Taapsee – they are both “great pioneer women.” Read more: Kangana Ranaut tells Taapsee Pannu after IT raid: ‘You will be sasti forever’

Kangana Ranaut had tweeted about Taapsee in March last year, calling her a “sasti” actor. Kangana had written: “You will always be sasti because you are sab rapists, ka feminist … your ringmaster (Anurag) Kashyap was also raided for tax chori in 2013 … the government official’s report is out if you are not guilty you’re going to court against them be honest about this… come on sasti Kangana’s sister Rangoli Chandel had also called Taapsee a “sasti copy (cheap imitation)” of the actor.

Ekta, who has worked with both Kangana and Taapsee – she produced Judgmental Hai Kya, starring Kangana and Rajkumar Rao, and also produced Kangana’s reality show Lock Upp – called them both “brilliant actors” on Wednesday. When asked to comment on Kangana doing an excavation at Taapsee and calling her a ‘sasti’ copy of herself, Ekta said: “There is only one similarity, both (Kangana and Taapsee) are great pioneer women and to confront them playing each other off is not your job and mine. We are women, we adjust each other’s crown, do not remove it.”

Ekta Kapoor also shared her experience working with Kangana and Taapsee, saying: “It’s great to work with such great actors. If there is an interesting project, I will approach the actor alone and ask to read the script. So it’s heartwarming to work with great actors. They bring in a lot more, Kangana is a brilliant actor and so is Taapsee.”

Taapsee will soon be seen in Ekta Kapoor-backed Dobaaraa. The thriller will hit theaters on August 19 and also stars Rahul Bhatt, Saswata Chatterjee and Pavail Gulati. The project marks the reunion of Anurag Kashyap and Taapsee after Manmarziyaan.
