EXCLUSIVE: Rohit Shetty to start Singham 3 with Ajay Devgn from April; Calls it the biggest cop universe film

Rohit Shetty is the pioneer of what can be called the very first cinematic universe of Indian cinema. One of the most successful directors of modern times, the hit machine has brought together Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar as Singham, Simmba and Sooryavanshi for the Rohit Shetty agent universe. While his Cirkus with Ranveer Singh is all set for a release on December 23, Rohit says in an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla that the preparatory work for Singham 3 has already begun.

“We’ve already started Singham 3. It’s been a long time since I made a proper Singham film. We’ll start shooting next year in April. Ajay Sir is busy with his commitments and I’m also working on Cirkus. So in April we will launch Singham 3. It will be the biggest police universe we’ve made so far,” said Rohit, without going into other details. It’s hard to become a multi-starrer in today’s day and age and Rohit insists it’s not such a difficult task for him as his actors are completely confident in his skills.

“Ajay sir and Akshay sir come from an old school, where they believe in making multiple hero movies. Ranveer is confident that I will present him in the right way. I never had the problem to make such cinema, but the young guys wouldn’t listen to their managers and start working on two hero movies. They have to put their insecurity behind them, otherwise it will be difficult for the producers to make large scale movies. After 2 years, the content movies will work again. But for the In the next 2 to 3 years, it will be a matter of properly making large-scale films with multiple heroes. Large-scale is what the audience will come to see,” explains Rohit.

During Sooryavanshi promotions, Rohit had confirmed exclusively to Pinkvilla that a female agent will soon be making an entrance into his universe. Tackle him for an update on the same and he signs, “Yeah, the female police movie is meant to happen and it will happen.”

Meanwhile, Rohit’s upcoming projects include Indian Police with Sidharth Malhotra and Cirkus with Ranveer Singh. Read our exclusive detailed interview with the hit machine here, where he discussed his brand, the cinema that works and even dissected the way forward for the Hindi film industry.
