THE100 Sports News Wed, 11 Jan 2023 16:30:33 +0000 en-US hourly 1 THE100 32 32 Pakistani Speed Gun Rauf Openly Challenges King Kohli!! Wed, 11 Jan 2023 16:30:32 +0000 After losing to England by ten wickets in the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 at the Adelaide Oval, India was knocked out of the tournament. Millions of Indian supporters had hoped for a fantasy final against India’s arch-rivals Pakistan before the team’s humiliating loss. Indian fans were devastated, as they had anticipated an exhilarating final against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf told the media after India’s embarrassing loss that the Indian team failed at the T20 World Cup 2022. India won the first match against Pakistan in a thrilling style, by four wickets on the final ball of the second innings. Fans from both nations were captivated by the close contest.

Virat Kohli was a significant factor in India’s victory. In his innings, he scored 82 runs on 53 balls. Even though India was in a precarious position when they started the second innings, he made the chase look effortless. Cricket commentators lauded his innings, especially his 19th over straight six off Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf. The six was hit smack dab in the middle, high over the bowler’s head. Team India’s situation at the time of the six was unprecedented. The Indian fans in the stadium got a lot of energy from that six. It also shocked people who were cheering for Pakistan. This shot tipped the scales in India’s favour and changed the match’s trajectory. Virat Kohli’s composure under fire was impressive during the game. Anyone who knows cricket knows what sort of a player he is.

Haris Rauf told the media that he does not believe Kohli can play that shot again because he has already played it. It is quite improbable that Virat Kohli will play such a shot again. His initial attempt resulted in a six by sending the ball into the crowd. Kohli snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Pakistan with a match-winning inning of 82 runs (including six fours and four sixes). In retrospect, Rauf appreciates the six for more than its visual appeal; he knows how pivotal it was at that point in the game and how skillfully Kohli played it.

Harish Rauf has also continued his challenge against Kohli.

India has lost balance! Karim points out the failure of the top order. Wed, 11 Jan 2023 16:27:47 +0000 After losing by 16 runs to Sri Lanka in the second Twenty20 International on January 5 in Pune, Saba Karim slammed Team India. The former India selector thinks the team needs more harmony and coherence in its strategy. Karim emphasised how frequently India’s top hierarchy has failed. The veteran continued by saying that the hosts couldn’t rely on Suryakumar Yadav and the lower-middle order to save them in every situation.

India’s top order is the most significant issue. We frequently had bailouts from Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya when more seasoned players participated. Many of them have IPL or international cricket experience. After Shubman Gill’s numerous opening failures, this statement was made by Karim. Despite having IPL playing experience, Sanju Samson and Rahul Tripathi both performed poorly in single T20Is. In the first game against the Islanders, Team India was down to 46/3, and they were 57/5 in the second T20I.

Reetinder Singh Sodhi, a former all-rounder for India, concurred with Karim. He pointed out that India can only sometimes rely on Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Suryakumar to save the team during his appearance on the same show.

The highest echelon must participate. The bat-like form of Hardik Pandya was different from what was anticipated. If we compare the two games, the lower order, particularly Axar and Suryakumar, saved us. Team India needs to improve their bowling, according to Sodhi, if the hosts want to prevail in the series finale on January 7.

In the first match of the series, batting needed to be done correctly. In the second game, we bowled improperly, and our bowling performance suffered. We must prevent Sri Lanka from winning the series at this point because they would believe they have a good chance. It will only happen if we do the fundamentals—bowl and bat well—.

The veteran believes Hardik Pandya and the company must adopt the proper attitude before playing the defending Asia Cup champions.

India should play with a more positive attitude.

Make way for the best picks of IPL Auction 2023 Wed, 11 Jan 2023 16:22:56 +0000 Meta Description: Get prepared for IPL Auction 2023 with our rundown of the best bargain buys. From bats to bowlers, we’ve got you covered!

Sam Curran, Cameron Green, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, and Nicolaus Pooran were among the exciting and pricey purchases made during the 2023 IPL auction. Several purchases could launch what is likely to be an exciting season.

Here are our top five bargain purchases:

  1. Adam Zampa

Rajasthan royals were the most excellent team in the auction as they bought those players who were worth the money. Adam currently ranks among the finest leg spinners in the world.

  • Jason Holder

Jason Holder is another brilliant acquisition for the Rajasthan Royals, giving them access to an extra back finisher and a superb death bowler. Holder has excelled in the last two to three seasons, and they bought him for 5.75 crore, which is unquestionably a steal. The Rajasthan Royals’ death bowling has improved due to bagging a holder.

  • Kyle Jamieson

Given that he was only purchased for one crore, he is an excellent acquisition for the Chennai Super Kings. Because Dwayne Bravo won’t be playing this year, CSK needed an all-rounder. However, Ben Strokes is another all-rounder who is truly a gift for Chennai Super King, and after MS Dhoni, he may take over as captain. However, Bravo’s death bowling and batting were precious, so that CSK may use Jamieson in that capacity instead.

  • Jhye Richardson

Although Cameron Green may have dominated the MI camp, Jhye Richardson, an Australian bowler, is someone to watch. Richardson was just bought for 1.5 crores, and in his T20 career, he has taken over 100 wickets at an average of 22.14 and with an economy of fewer than eight runs per over. Mumbai Indians’ bowling is prepared to compete in the postseason with the support from Jasprit Bumrah, Jofra Archer, and Cameron Green.

  • Joe Root

Joe Root has been an excellent batsman for England in ODI and Test matches while having a respectable record in T20 Internationals. Despite this, Root is not included in England’s starting lineup for the T20 world cup, which the country nevertheless won without him. To revitalise his T20 career, Root entered the IPL auction, and Rajasthan Royals gave him an opportunity. The purchase of Root for one crore would be a smart move. Joe Root is also a skilled spinner who can be helpful when playing on turning tracks like those in Chennai.

Umran Malik, on his way to the TOP !! Wed, 11 Jan 2023 16:19:54 +0000 Umran Malik, a young Indian bowler, has had a lot of hype and excitement around him lately. Trying to make his place in the Indian Cricket Team, the ‘Jammu Express’ has now become a sensation, and it seems that he is almost ready to face the World Cup. Umran Malik is a pacer who can bowl at 150 kmph. This 23-year young lad has exceptional bowling skills and has been causing trouble to the batters even when he has a very brief career as of now.

IPL Career

Umran Malik made his debut in Indian Premier League 2021, where he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was given very limited chances to perform, but the boy succeeded in attracting attention and making a bright spot for himself.

For IPL Season 2022, he continued with Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he came across as a fierce fast bowler leading to which Sunrisers Hyderabad retained him for IPL Season 2023 for INR 4 Crore.

Ind v SL T20I- Record-Breaking Bowling

Umran Malik has come across as the most wicket-taking pacer for the 3-match T20 International series against Sri Lanka, where he bagged seven wickets. Malik broke the record by bowling at the speed of 155 kmph, which is the fastest bowling ever by an Indian Bowler, and Jasprit Bumrah held the previous record of fast bowling at 153.36 kmph. Definitely, he has got all that it takes to become India’s one of best fast bowlers.

Malik, as of now, has played 6 T20 Internationals for India, in which he has bagged nine wickets. He has, overall, bowled 20 overs till now at the cost of 218 runs, making his economy rate 10.90. He has played 5 ODI matches and bagged seven wickets at the expense of 198 runs making his economy 6.00.

Given the fact that all his economy rates are on the higher side, Umran Malik is definitely worth all the praise and attention. We cannot deny the speculations of his chances of showing his impeccable fast bowling skills in the upcoming ICC World Cup.

A self-made Champ! Suryakumar Yadav is the regular guy who made it big Wed, 11 Jan 2023 16:16:25 +0000 Following his third century in the T20I format, the top-ranked T20I batsman in the world, Suryakumar Yadav, talked about the sacrifices his family made for his cricket career. The right-hander said he had to work harder for his family to see something in him because there was no tradition of athletics in his family.

On Saturday, Suryakumar Yadav became just the second Indian player to achieve three T20I hundreds, earning him the title of not just the best batter in the world in the shortest format but also one of the all-time greats. Suryakumar has now amassed a lifetime total of 1578 runs scored in 43 innings while striking out a staggering 180.34 percent of the time.

So far, my family has had a significant impact on my cricket career. Since my father is an engineer and there is no history of sports in my family, they were the ones who helped me get out of the box when I first started playing. Because of this, I needed to stand out a little for him to push me. They have given up a lot.

As an engineer, Suryakumar claimed that his father went “above and beyond” to support the development of his cricketing career. The batter, who was born in Mumbai, also gave his wife credit for helping him keep up his level of fitness and steadily advance.

Suryakumar has earned a lot of praise from many quarters, with skipper Hardik Pandya claiming that he discourages bowlers. The 29-year-old claimed that the right-hander barely needs direction because he is familiar with game scenarios and can come up with a solution.

In fact, it has made me more ravenous now. Despite how much domestic cricket I’ve played, I’ve always enjoyed representing my state, and no matter where I’ve played, I’ve always tried to put on a show. I’ve also had fun batting here. The last few years have been a little difficult, but I kept telling myself, “This is why you play the game; just enjoy it,” and my love for the game kept me motivated, so I persisted.

India have missed the trick! Ajay Jadeja feels Team India needs to follow “The Dhoni Blueprint”. Wed, 11 Jan 2023 16:12:22 +0000 Ajay Jadeja, a former India captain, believes that Team India should start more all-rounders in white-ball competitions. He believes that having more all-rounders provides the team more alternatives for their bowling attack and keeps them one step ahead of the competition. The seasoned player emphasised that MS Dhoni has enough options, citing Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, and Suresh Raina as a few examples.

India and Bangladesh are currently engaged in a two-match Test series. We all know that cricket is a team sport, and in this Test match, India has been observed playing as a very good team. If we talk about the first Test match, India really has a solid hold on the contest. However, Shubhman Gill attracted a lot of attention when he scored his first century in a Test match. Shubhman Gill is receiving a lot of accolades, and some people even want to see him as a permanent player in Test matches. However, former batsman Ajay Jadeja has issued a warning to Gill.

Shuhamn Gill,  India’s opening batsman made his test cricket debut in a match against Australia in Melbourne in the year 2020. Since that time, he had failed to record a century in a test match, but in Bangladesh vs. India’s second inning, he achieved his first century.

Following his century, Gill received a lot of praise and attention. It is a really big moment when you achieve a century in test cricket, according to former cricketer Ajay Jadeja, who commented on this. He claimed he is unable to adequately express his feelings in words. Although 100 seems insignificant, in test cricket it is actually just as crucial as passing an exam.

Ajay Jadeja added that Gill had to use caution in this situation, though. He warned Shubhman Gill by using Prithvi shaw as an example.  Regarding Prithvi Shaw, he scored a century in the first game and then was given numerous opportunities, but he was unable to seize them, and as a result, He is no longer a part of the Indian team.

In essence, Ajay Jadeja has advised Gill to proceed with caution. He doesn’t anticipate Gill to unwind here. Jadeja wants Gill to guarantee his spot on the Indian team.

Jadeja praises Shubman Gill personally and compares him to former Indian cricket team members who are no longer on the team because they have routinely done poorly in this venue.  Jadeja, however, praised Shubhman Gill highly in this specific instance. This served as a good lesson for Gill to be cautious and keep his drive.

Is Rahul Tripathi the next big thing for India in T20I? Wed, 11 Jan 2023 16:08:13 +0000 Rahul Tripathi made his T20 International debut against Sri Lanka in the 3-match series finale at Rajkot, where he played a brilliant inning of 35 off 16. The match victory was highly credited to the smacking century of Suryakumar Yadav. Still, the attacking intent of Rahul Tripathi cannot be ignored, as he gave Team India the right pace in the powerplay.

Now, if we consider his performance in the series finals and the ease with which he played off the bowlers of Sri Lanka, there is no doubt that Tripathi has some real potential and capabilities to play at the top batting order.

An alternative for the opening batsmen

Ishaan Kishan and Shubman Gill, the opening batsmen, gave a slow start to the innings, and Rahul Tripathi entered the arena at No. 3 after Ishaan Kishan lost his wicket. Tripathi took an attacking approach against the Lankan bowlers with five 4s and two 6s in his brief innings of 16 balls. It looked like he knew how to manage the bowlers and hit beautiful shots out of it.

The Indian team has had a slower run-making pace in power play leading to missing some crucial matches. The defeat of the Indian Cricket team in the semi-finals of the T20I World Cup is owed to this struggle to make runs in the power play. In such a case, someone like Tripathi, who has an aggressive batting tendency, can be the right pick to open for India and score for the team in power play in T20 matches.

Suryakumar Yadav & Rahul Tripathi: A combination we did not know we needed

Suryakumar Yadav is, hands down, the best Indian Cricket team has right now, and he is justifying it well. However, at times, the batting lineup lacks a backup, sheer support, or partnership to his calibre. Rahul Tripathi is a batsman of similar nature, and together they will complement each other well. A batting partnership of these two Indian gems would be worth a wait and worth a watch!

Sanjay Yadav could have been the Chennai Super Kings’ Dark Horse? Wed, 11 Jan 2023 16:05:44 +0000 With a consistently good domestic cricket career, Sanjay Yadav almost paved his way for IPL 2023 but unfortunately he remained unsold in the auction. Yadav was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders in 2017 for INR 10 Lakh, however he was not given an opportunity to play. Later in 2020, Sunrisers Hyderabad picked Sanjay Yadav for INR 20 Lakh.

Yadav in TNPL, 2022

Ramsingh Sanjay Yadav (27) is an all round cricket player who bats left handed and bowls slower left arm. He stole the limelight with his exceptionally impeccable performance in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), 2022. Yadav was the ‘Man of the Tournament’ where he topped the score table with 452 runs and an excellent strike rate of 186.77. He also took 6 wickets in the entire season, thus doing everything right.

Could have Yadav done it for CSK?

Sanjay Yadav was dropped from the list by Mumbai Indians prior to the IPL Auction which came as a huge shocker to everyone considering the fierce performance of the player in TNPL. Post being released by MI, there were speculations that CSK might want to give Sanjay Yadav a chance and pick him in the IPL 2023 Auction.

Yadav is an all rounder and CSK could have secured him as a backup for Ravindra Jadeja. Given the stats of Sanjay, he is as good as Jadeja in domestic cricket. CSK had INR 20.45 Crore to spend in the IPL 2023 Auction and Sanjay Yadav could have been a bargain pick for them. An opportunity to Sanjay Yadav might have been a right thing to do for CSK, but we regret to say, it is all done now!

Brother Sonu Yadav picked by RCB

Sanjay Yadav’s younger brother Sonu Yadav paved his way for Bengaluru when Royal Challengers Bangalore picked him for his base price INR 20 Lakhs. Thus, it was not all dull and sad for the Yadav brothers and we hope we get to see more of Sanjay Yadav playing in the next season of the IPL.

Oh No! Arshdeep Singh bowled 5 No Balls and created a record during the 2nd T20 International against Sri Lanka Wed, 11 Jan 2023 15:29:45 +0000 Meta Description: Arshdeep Singh becomes the second bowler after New Zealand pacer Hamish Rutherford to bowl 5 no balls in one T20 International match.

Indian Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has made a highly forgettable return to playing XI for the second T20 International against Sri Lanka. On Thursday, January 5th, 2023 2nd T20 International was played between India and Sri Lanka at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune, where Sri Lanka won by 16 runs.

Created a record of No Ball

Arshdeep Singh was making a comeback after an illness due to which he could not play the first T20 International. Unfortunately, he was finding it difficult to get his rhythm and created a record unwanted by every bowler. The Left-arm pacer has created a record of bowling 5 no-balls in a T20 International. He has become the 2nd bowler to bowl 5 no balls in a T20 International after New Zealand cricketer Hamish Rutherford.

Making it easy for Sri Lanka

Singh was seen struggling to find his form and bowled only one over in the first 18 overs of Sri Lanka’s innings, where he bowled 3 no balls consecutively and leaked 19 runs. He was brought to bowl the 19th over, where he again bowled 2 no balls and leaked 18 runs. In the 19th over, Suryakumar Yadav took a heroic catch of Dasun Shanaka, who was playing on 30 off 14, but it was Sri Lankan fans that were celebrating because Arshdeep had overstepped! Again. This led to a free hit for 6 by Dasun Shanaka. Just 2 balls after the reprieve to Sri Lankan Skipper Shanaka, Arshdeep overstepped the crease again, leading to another free hit. It is to be noted that Dasun Sanaka scored 56 off 22 and helped Sri Lanka score past 200.

Shivam Mavi and Umran Malik also bowled one no-ball each, making India’s total no-ball tally for the match 7, which definitely helped Sri Lanka to make their way towards winning the match.
