Ek Villain Returns Box Office Day 8 (Early Trends): Mohit Suri’s directing had quite a run in the first week since release. John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor, Disha Patani and Tara Sutaria starrer managed to collect Rs 32.50 crores* this week.
The psychological thriller had a good opening day collecting Rs 7 crores. It turned out to be one of the top openers as well as Arjun Kapoor’s weekend caves. Monday’s collection, however, saw a massive 50% drop from opening day.
Since then, Ek Villain Returns has struggled to find audiences in the theaters. During the pre-pandemic era, the film could have been considered a box office disaster, but considering that other promising films are now failing at the box office, Mohit Suri’s film made a fair case at the box office.
John Abraham & Arjun Kapoor starrer prequel, Ek Villain was considered a blockbuster. It’s a shame that Mohit Suri’s film couldn’t match the performance of its 2014 release. Nevertheless, it continues to sail at the till, albeit at the bottom. As the latest early trading reports pass, the psychological thriller will earn Rs 1.-1.50 crores.
Now all eyes are on the second week. At the time of release, Ek Villain Returns was expected to de Rs 50 crore mark comfortable, but now the lifetime collection may not be more than 42-44 crores. Come this Friday, two major releases are waiting to cause a storm at the box office.
Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan are already generating enough buzz. Most of the screens will be assigned to both films. This means the second week could turn out to be a swan song for Ek Villain Returns.
