A video of a female gorilla showing her baby to visitors at a zoo in Canada has gone viral on social media. It is reminiscent of a popular scene from the 1994 animated film The Lion King, in which Rafiki introduces the mandrill Simba to the pride. The video was shot at the Calgary Zoo in Canada and posted Thursday by ViralHog on his Instagram handle. In less than 24 hours, the video has racked up over 1 lakh views and over 14,000 likes. The visitors were pleasantly surprised by the gesture of the female gorilla.
The video was posted with the caption, “A proud mom shows off her baby at the Calgary Zoo.”
The short clip shows the female gorilla kissing and caressing the baby. The primate is also seen hugging the little one.
Many Instagram users were happy to watch the mother gorilla and her baby, saying the behavior is “just like humans”. But others were against the idea of keeping the animals in cages.
“I wish they were free,” one user commented. “They don’t belong there,” added another.
Last month, a video of gorillas riding bicycles attracted a lot of attention on social media. The video was shared by IFS Officer Dr. Samrat Gowda on Twitter.
The video showed the giant gorilla arriving on a bicycle. After a few seconds, the animal lost control and dropped out of the cycle. In anger, the monkey then threw the bike away, causing Twitteratis to laugh.
Mr. Gowda captioned the video, “Dumb Cycle!!”
The video garnered more than 65,000 views on Twitter.
