Since the last T20 World Cup, India has had 11 fast bowlers, and the audition continues for the final roster for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. Few stood on the back of their brilliant show in the 2021 IPL, while two new names were added to the list after the 2022 edition of the tournament. And former India captain and ex-chief selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth was deeply impressed by one of the last two pacesetters added to the list of contenders and urged incumbent chief selector Chetan Sharma to choose him for the T20. World Cup while making a bold prediction.
Srikkanth was hugely acclaimed for Arshdeep Singh, who had impressed veterans and experts of the game with his ability to bowl yorkers at will and icy approach in the death overs during the IPL 2022. But the 23-year-old only managed to made its debut in the English T20I series last month. Since then, he has played four T20I innings for India, taking six wickets at just 6.51.
Five of those wickets were picked in the death overs where he conceded just 6.35 runs per over and capped nearly every 13 balls. Of the Indian bowlers who have had at least five overs since the last T20 World Cup, Arshdeep has the best economy.
Speaking about Fan Code ahead of the start of the third T20I match between India and the West Indies, Srikkanth made a bold prediction about the youngster saying that he will lead the T20I charts in the future and urged Chetan Sharma to choose the bowler for the T20 World Cup.
“He will be the number 1 of the future world in the T20Is. He’s just excellent. Arshdeep Singh! Make a note of it. He will be part of the T20 World Cup team. Come on Chetu, please include his name too,” he said.
With Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah secure for the World Cup, Arshdeep will face stiff competition from Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, Deepak Chahar and Mohammed Shami.
