Once you click buy, there are real-time systems that decide which fulfillment center is best to allocate the order based on the delivery location. A fulfillment center is where the order is first delivered, picked and packed, and shipped ahead.

Amazon has 60 fulfillment centers in 15 states in India, spread over a floor space of more than 10 million square feet – more than and the size of 125 football fields.

Once assigned, it decides which person, a so-called ‘picker’, will be assigned the order, who then gets the item on their handheld device to start picking from the correct aisle.

It then goes to the packing station where it is placed in the correct box with the correct label and then to the slam station where the customer’s address label is affixed to the package and then shipped to the correct sorting station.

There are sorting stations in 19 states with a sorting area of 2.3 million square feet. Once sorted, it is sent to one of Amazon’s 1,850 delivery stations based on the address and then delivered to the customer.

This year’s Prime Day sale will see more than 30,000 new products launched at 450 companies.

Of the 30,000, 2,000 new launches come from 120 small or medium-sized companies that launch exclusive products on Amazon.

Tushar Khurana, co-founder of the oral care brand Perfora Care is one such seller. Tushar launched his business in August 2021 and nearly 35 percent of his business now comes from Amazon. He has also launched new products this season, such as his electric toothbrush, and is expected to see massive growth in orders from the Prime Day sale.
