Domestic sales were 3,20,844 units last month, while the same stood at 38,763 units in May 2021.
Exports amounted to 32,344 units last month compared to 19,405 units in May 2021.
“The market is gaining momentum as supply-side disruptions ease along with an increase in physical presence in offices and educational institutions,” HMSI Managing Director, President and CEO Atsushi Ogata said in a statement.
This month’s sales figures are not comparable to May last year, as frequent lockdowns in the wake of the second wave marred performance, he added.
“Growth in both domestic and international trade continues to complement each other as we approach an early monsoon,” noted Ogata.
