ln an exclusive conversation with Arturo Palafox and Dan Fridman from MARCA† Hugo Snchez† Real Madrid idol in the 80s, did not hesitate to tackle the Frenchman’s controversial failed signing Kylian Mbappwho decided to renew for PSG and turned down the one million dollar offer to become the new player of the Spanish main team.
Ask: What has to go through a player’s mind to say no to Real Madrid? Do you think Mbappé was mentally not ready to take on the challenge of wearing that jersey?
Answers: It’s very hard to answer you because I’m not in his head, in his brain, and I’m not him either. But if I feel he didn’t say no to Real Madrid, but he told Real Madrid to wait a little bit for me.
Because he has so much pressure, so many external situations, and maybe even family members pressured him and influenced his decision to choose (not) Real Madrid, but later it was his wish, it was his illusion, it was his dream , but that dream, as he said, well, the dream can wait.
I think he is showing signs that he wants to go to Real Madrid, but now because of political problems, social problems, economic problems I don’t think they are, because he was going to make a lot of money at Real Madrid, as he is going to make a lot of money at PSG, so it’s not because of the money, but before that he didn’t say no to Real Madrid, rather he said I can’t betray other kinds of situations that are stronger than money. You have to understand that.
Hugo Sanchez vs. Karim Benzema: A Timeless Comparison
Q: Do you consider yourself a better striker than Karim Benzema, given the times you played and adapting to today?
Answers: It’s very hard, these are answers you have to answer first and not me, because I’m very respectful in terms of eras and times.
What I know for sure is that players like it Pel and Beckenbauer, who are older than me, would succeed in football today, and so would all the great players who have taken part in this wonderful sport that is football. I feel that because of the physical conditions and the training and preparation that we have today, we can say that people today, like Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi, if they were born in the 50s and so many years in Pel’s time, Beckenbauer , in our time, would shine in exactly the same way.
The great talents and the great football players, the successful people, I believe they would succeed in any period of their lives.
We should enjoy everyone’s moment and time and be thankful they gave us that reference for those of us who followed them.
For my part, my reference was Pel, apart from other Mexican players who played professionally when I was a kid.
Ask: Would you say talents are timeless?
Answers: Yes, I think so, one thing I’ve learned within the many values my father, mother, family and friends have given me is respect, I believe that as long as we continue to live with that respect, in all generations, it will are more beautiful and give everyone the place they deserve because of the times they have lived through.
