Attorney Camille Vasquez, who became an overnight celebrity when she represented actor Johnny Depp in the defamation lawsuit he filed against ex-wife Amber Heard, has been promoted to her law firm Brown Rudnick. Ms. Vasquez received the spotlight for her cross-examination of Ms. during the six-week trial.

In a Twitter post, law firm Brown Rudnick announced that Ms. Vasquez has now been elevated to the rank of partner.

“We are pleased to announce that Camille Vasquez has been promoted to partner, she was a key member of the trial team that won a jury verdict for actor #JohnnyDepp in his defamation trial of ex-wife Amber Heard last week,” the tweet read. †

In a release, posted along with the tweet, the law firm said they have historically reserved this announcement for the end of our fiscal year. “But Camille’s performance at the Johnny Depp trial proved to the world that she was ready to take this next step now. We are incredibly proud of her and look forward to what she will achieve as our newest partner.”

After the announcement, congratulatory tweets poured in.

“Congratulations Camille!” noted one user.

“Congratulations Camille and the firm. The whole team did a fantastic job. Very impressed with the presentation of the case, which was accurate, convincing and concise. We are fans, Johnny’s family members, owe your team a huge thank you said another. †

She became an internet sensation due to her legal expertise and genius in the courtroom.

During the trial, Ms. Vasquez fearlessly cross-examined Ms. Heard, and one of the highlights was when she asked the “Aquaman” actor if the $7 million divorce settlement amount had been donated by her to charity, as promised.

After Ms. Heard tried to avoid answering it directly by stating that she had pledged the money to various charities, Ms. Vasquez famously pointed out the deception by saying, “Mrs. Heard, with respect, that’s not my question.”

According to her biography on Brown Rudnick’s website, “Camille is adept at formulating offensive and defensive litigation strategies for retail clients. She also has extensive experience handling parallel reputation management and crisis communication issues arising from these assignments.”
