Kia India has announced that the Sonet has now passed the milestone of 1.5 lakh units sold in the country. The sub-compact SUV hit the number just under 2 years since its launch in September 2020 and about 9 months after hitting the 1 lakh unit milestone. Since its launch, Kia has updated its compact SUV every year with the most recent will be in april this year† Kia says the Sonet accounts for about 32 percent of the company’s total revenue. The SUV was the company’s second bestseller behind the Seltos in monthly sales, which was only recently replaced by the new Carens in 2022.
Commenting on this milestone, Myung-sik Sohn – Chief Sales Officer, Kia India said: “We are delighted that Sonet has added 1.5 Lakh customers to the Kia India family. Today’s evolved urban Indian customer is dynamic, tech-savvy and daring, and we are incredibly proud to have developed a product that has proven to be the right companion for them.”
Kia says 25 percent of Sonet buyers have opted for iMT variants, with the company also seeing high demand for the regular vending machines and top variants. The company said the automatic variants made up about 22 percent of total sales, while 26 percent of all Sonets sold were top variants.

In the split between diesel and petrol, the latter remained the best seller, accounting for 59 percent of total sales. White and black were the most preferred color options.
The Sonet is currently available in no fewer than 7 variants – 8 including the Anniversary Edition. Buyers can choose from three engine options: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5-litre diesel and a 1.0-litre turbo petrol. The 1.2 petrol comes standard with a 5-speed manual transmission. The 1.0 turbo petrol is available with a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, while the 1.5 diesel is available with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.

Earlier this year, Kia India also announced that it would 5 lakh unit cumulative sales milestone† Of these, the company had sold more than 4 lakh cars in India in about 2.5 years, with more than 1 lakh units being exported.
