The highly anticipated arrival of Sadio Mane from Liverpool has been confirmed after about two months of speculation and he is expected to be in the starting line-up soon. This means he will team up with Kingsley Coman, who is a guaranteed starter on the wing. So, where does that place Bayern Munich’s current wingers Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry?
German outlet kicker reports that the two German wingers have failed to impress the board, which believes the wings are not good enough. Sané has disappeared like snow in the sun after a strong start to the season and Gnabry has been hugely inconsistent. Even Jamal Musiala is preferred over them, which says a lot about Sané and Gnabry’s place in the pecking order. As things stand, Sane and Gnabry are under pressure and have the arduous task of convincing Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann of their qualities and why they should be chosen for Mane, Coman and Musiala.
Bayern are also well prepared if Gnabry leaves the club. Bayern’s latest offer will be their last and it will not be improved further; Gnabry has still not accepted, although his most ideal situation would be to stay at Bayern.
Sané and Gnabry should be ashamed of themselves, as a new recruit (Mané) making their way to the base for them is shocking, but not surprising in this case. The only time they will play if they keep this up is if someone gets injured (knock on wood) or is unavailable for selection so they have to watch themselves. A transfer out is also possible.
We all know that Sané and Gnabry are talented, but there’s just something about them that keeps them from playing their best. Ultimately, it’s up to the player whether he shows up in games. This is Sané’s make-or-break season as I’m still waiting for Gnabry’s 2019/20 return. Hopefully we’ll see the true power of “Sanabry” soon.
