Leicestershire-based Samworth Brothers Supply Chain has just taken delivery of their first batch of new new generation MAN TGX trucks.

The tasty duo are entering the fleet following the success of a demonstration vehicle that impressed Samworth Brothers Supply Chain with its competitive fuel efficiency, impressive uptime record and sheer amount of positive feedback from drivers.

The latest additions to the temperature-controlled distribution specialist’s fleet are both new-generation MAN TGX 26.470 6×2 tractor units, featuring the popular GM cabs. They were supplied by the Direct Sales function of MAN, PDI and the preparation was carried out by MAN Truck & Bus Nuneaton.

Paul Marrow, Operations Director at Samworth Brothers Supply Chain, said; “We have a number of older generation MAN Trucks in the fleet and they have served us well over time. The new generation TGX demonstrator turned out to be very interesting indeed, it easily lived up to our expectations and lived up to the positive comments we have seen in the press and heard from other operators.”

The new TGXs, part of a fleet of approximately 122 units and 240 trailers within the Samworth Brothers Supply Chain network, with sites in Leicester, Penrith, Callington (East Cornwall) and Bristol, will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. per day, on nationwide distribution work, much of which involves pulling double-decker trailers, traveling across the country and delivering products to customers.

Established in 1998, the Samworth Brothers Supply Chain function provides a high-quality and cost-effective, temperature-controlled distribution service to companies within the Samworth Brothers Group, as well as to many outside manufacturers, retailers and distributors of refrigerated food.

The new Samworth Brothers trucks are both powered by MAN’s latest generation of 12.4 liter six-cylinder engines with a low consumption of 470 hp. Across the model range, these advanced engines have proven to be economical on service costs, fuel efficient and environmentally friendly. These engines are also lighter, thereby improving payload efficiency, which in turn has a positive effect on the fleet’s total cost of ownership (TCO) and performance over the vehicle’s lifetime.

Paul continues: “In road transport, the economy plays a major role in the decision-making process about the replacement of our fleet. In the short time we have had our new MAN vehicles we have been impressed with their performance, they run well and week after week we see an improvement in performance.

All our vehicles are individually monitored by telematics which, using regular driver training and vehicle familiarization best practices, we deliver continuous improvements by reducing our CO2 emissions.”

Both new vehicles are equipped with and feature MAN’s latest comprehensive Efficiency Package (EL3), including MAN Efficient Cruise 3, MAN Efficient Roll, MAN Idle speed driving and Engine idle shutdown, technology that has clearly helped the new generation MAN TGX to to win the title. award of International Truck of the Year 2021.

Paul added: “With a high level of car such as comfort, the driver acceptance is good, as is the high level of technology in both driver safety and assistive devices. Equipped with Lane Departure Warning, Emergency Brake Assist and Electronic Stability Program, we know these vehicles have the right specifications to ensure our drivers have a relaxed and safe environment throughout the working week.”

Building on safety, the new generation MAN TGXs from Samworth Brothers feature a host of advanced safety systems, including EBA, ESP, ASR and LGS. Also included in the specification is the MAN Safety Pack, Drivers airbag, Turn Assist and ACC (Adaptive Cruse Control) Stop & Go.
