Manchester United are desperate to strengthen their squad in the transfer window and Erik ten Hag are keen to sign a striker this summer with a number of players in line, including Darwin Nunez.
Manchester United are ready to make Andreas Pereira the ideal replacement as part of a deal to bring Darwin Nunez to Old Trafford.
The Benfica star is one of Erik ten Hag’s top targets as he prepares to bolster the squad. There will be plenty of action in the transfer window at the Red Devils this summer.
Much is due to the necessity with so many departures already confirmed, including Juan Mata, Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani. The latter has left United to the bone with a striker to be watched by the club this summer.
Several have already been mentioned as potential newcomers, including Richarlison, Lautaro Martinez and Nunez – but it’s the last name that has attracted the most attention. The Uruguayan international has been in stunning form this season.
The 22-year-old has scored 34 goals in 41 appearances and has been linked with several other clubs, including Real Madrid, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain. According to the Independent, Benfica has priced Nunez at £100 million.
That would definitely be beyond United’s remit as they are looking to bring in a number of players and such an amount would be a major blow to their transfer record. As such, the Red Devils have a plan where Ten Hag picks an ideal star that can be used to lower the price.

Pereira has been put forward as a possible counterweight to a transfer, with Benfica willing to come to the table. The Brazilian has been loaned out to Flamengo for the season, where United’s own scouts have been impressed with his development.
The 26-year-old has only really had two seasons to impress at Old Trafford on a string of loan spells, including at Valencia and Lazio, before moving to Brazil last year. But while he may be an outcast at United, the midfielder could still be useful to the club.
If Pereira could be used to alleviate some of Nunez’s costs, it could turn out to be a masterstroke of a deal with plenty of clubs chasing the young striker. There are several players associated with United and they will need all the money they can get.
The Ajax duo Jurrien Timber and Antony could reunite with Ten Hag at the Red Devils, while Frenkie de Jong – another student of the Dutch coach – is strongly connected.
