The highly regarded France international has seen his stock rise of late, but he has committed his immediate future to the Bundesliga giants
Christopher Nkunku, who is closely linked to Manchester United and Chelsea, has signed a new contract with RB Leipzig until 2026.
The France international scored 35 goals last season and provided 19 assists in 50 appearances to see his stock soar.
Clubs across Europe have been linked with the 24-year-old, most notably in the Premier League, but he has committed his immediate future to the Bundesliga heavyweights.
Why did Nkunku sign a new contract with RB Leipzig?
Explain his decision to the club official websiteNkunku said: “I am delighted to continue wearing the RB Leipzig shirt.
“After our great performance in winning the DFB-Pokal, it remained clear that my story is not over here – we want more!
“I was really impressed with the club’s efforts to keep me, so a big thank you to those responsible for trusting me and especially to [Leipzig CEO] Oliver Mintzlaff, with whom I was always in close contact.
“RB Leipzig has made a name for itself on the international scene in recent years, showing time and again that we can compete for titles. We want to build on that and go one step further.”
Does Nkunku’s new contract contain a release clause?
Nkunku’s previous deal with Leipzig was set to expire in 2024, but those terms have now been extended.
However, reports in Germany suggest an asking price has already been set for him.
It is suggested that his new deal with Leipzig will include a €65 million (£56 million) waiver clause that could be activated during the 2023 summer transfer window.
