The reintroduction of the 1-litre petrol engine means the Alto K10 nameplate is ready for a comeback
The previous Alto K10 was discontinued when BS6 standards were introduced in April 2020.
The new Alto K10 goes on sale on August 18.
The 1 liter unit will be the S-Presso’s DualJet engine with start/stop at idle speed.
The 2022 Alto K10 can be priced from Rs 4 lakh (ex-showroom).
Maruti will continue to offer the existing Alto alongside the 2022 Alto K10.
It has now been confirmed that Maruti will bring back the 1-litre petrol engine and AMT option with the upcoming Alto. It also marks the return of the ‘K10’ name after two years. The larger capacity unit was available with the previous Alto K10, which was discontinued when BS6 standards came into effect in April 2020.
Now discontinued Maruti Alto K10
The 1-litre petrol engine that powered the Alto K10 was a three-cylinder engine with an output of 68 hp and 90 Nm. Maruti offered it with both MT and AMT 5-speed transmission options.
It now gets the updated DualJet engine with start/stop technology at idle for a major improvement in fuel economy, as seen on the Celerio and S-Presso. It delivers 67 hp and 89 Nm and is offered with both MT and AMT 5-speed options. This updated engine has increased the mileage by almost 4 kmpl to 25.30 kmpl in the case of S-Presso AMT.
New generation Alto launch and other updates
Maruti recently announced that the new Alto K10 will go on sale on August 18. It will likely be based on the S-Presso’s Heartect platform and will therefore be larger than the outgoing version. Previous spy photos suggest the design will resemble that of the new Celerio.
Current generation Maruti Alto
We think the Maruti Alto K10 will have a starting price of Rs 4 lakh (ex-showroom) in 2022. The main rival of the hatchback remains the Renault Kwid. Maruti will continue to offer the existing Alto in addition to the new Alto K10.
