Ola Electric is reportedly preparing to enter the Indian electric four-wheeler segment with two upcoming electric cars. The company also plans to launch an affordable scooter. Ola Electric officially teased its first electric car at a customer event at the Ola Future factory.
While the EV startup is having issues with its electric scooter, it hasn’t stopped working on its upcoming electric car. The company released a 30-second teaser video of its upcoming premium electric cars during the ‘Ola Customer Day’ event held at the site of the company’s upcoming facility near Krishnagiri, TN. Interestingly, the company teased more than one electric car in the video.
New OLA electric cars
The teaser video shows three new electric cars from Ola in the making. According to the video, one of the upcoming Ola EV cars could be a low-slung, sporty sedan with a coupe roofline and a modern design. While the other two could be an electric SUV/coupé and a hatchback. The Ola sedan takes a lot of aerodynamic freedom in its exterior styling. Design features of the new Ola electric car include a wedge-shaped front end, an LED lighting signature that spans the entire width of the car, a sloping roofline and a Kia-esque rear end.
The company has not shared any further information about Ola’s upcoming electric cars, but CEO Bhavish Aggarwal said more details will be revealed on August 15. Ola Electric’s venture in the passenger car segment is expected in approximately 2 years.
Furthermore, tipster Yogesh Brar shared that the company is working on two EV models for India: an SUV and a sedan. The cars will be launched in late 2023 after the company successfully implements its battery factory. He also tipped that Ola is working on an affordable scooter with a new chassis and cruise control.
Drivetrain, range (expected)
The upcoming Ola EV car is believed to be powered by a lithium-ion battery pack with a capacity of about 60-80 kWh. Aided by an impressively low aerodynamic coefficient and frontal area. This battery could offer a range of more than 500 km. A time of 0-100 km/h in less than 7 seconds and a top speed of more than 150 km/h would be a good starting point in terms of performance. These numbers may be similar for their sedan, hatchback, and SUV, or they may be different.
