No alert slider, 150W fast charging and more: A closer look at OnePlus 10T 5G

OnePlus 10T 5G, the company’s latest flagship, will launch on August 3 at an event in New York. As always, some key details about the upcoming device are already public. The OnePlus 10T is the successor to the OnePlus 10 Pro from earlier this year. Interestingly, the ‘T’ series marks a return as we didn’t see a OnePlus 9T last year. There was the OnePlus 9RT, but then the R-series sets itself apart from the premium flagship of OnePlus. Let’s take a look at what has been confirmed so far.

OnePlus 10T launch: camera system

There is going to be a big change with the camera on the OnePlus 10T. There is no Hasselblad branding, unlike the OnePlus 10 Pro. The company confirmed this in a blog post where it revealed other details about the device’s camera. The reason for no Hasselblad branding has to do with cost. OnePlus “wanted to provide an ultimate flagship performance smartphone experience at the device’s chosen price,” the post said. Does this mean that the OnePlus 10T costs less than the OnePlus 10 Pro? We’ll have to wait and see.

Still, the OnePlus 10T comes with a triple camera system, with the main camera being the 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor. The camera has both optical (OIS) and electronic (EIS) image stabilization. It supports 10-bit color recording, which OnePlus says will provide “smoother transitions between each color for more accurate and enjoyable recordings”.

The OnePlus 10T also includes an ultra-wide camera with a field of view of 119.9 degrees and a macro camera. The OnePlus camera also comes with some software features. The latest is a new “Image Clarity Engine (ICE)”, which OnePlus says is an “updated algorithm” to ensure faster photos with more detail. We can only confirm what this means for camera results after testing the phone. Interestingly, Nightscape mode will be limited to the 50MP main camera.

OnePlus 10T launch: 150W SuperVOOC charging

The OnePlus 10T gets a 150W SUPERVOOC Endurance Edition. The company says the phone’s 4800 mAh battery will go from 1 to 100 percent in just 19 minutes. All phones come with the charger in the box for those who were wondering. And it supports USB Power Delivery (PD) charging protocol, so you can use this charger to power other devices like tablets, laptops, etc.

According to OnePlus, 150W fast charging will not compromise battery health and life, which is always a concern. It claims that after 1600 charge cycles or about four years of use, the battery will retain at least 80 percent of its original capacity.

OnePlus 10T launch: the processor

OnePlus’ flagship series usually runs on the high-quality Qualcomm processor. So it’s not surprising that the OnePlus 10T will use the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform, which is an upgrade over the previous-generation chipset powering the OnePlus 10 Pro. In a blog post, the company also mentioned that the phone will ship with the “most advanced cooling system that offers twice the dissipation of traditional smartphone vapor chambers.”

OnePlus 10T Launch: No Alert Slider

Yes, this iconic part of OnePlus’ premium phones will be missing from the 10T. The company confirmed this by saying that the decision was not “quick or easy” as this is a global flagship. In a blog post, OnePlus says the new design meant a “necessary trade-off” was the removal of our signature Alert Slider.

The blog post adds: “This decision gave us the necessary space in the device to add new, meaningful technologies that deliver significant improvements to the OnePlus experience while maintaining a thin and light form factor.” It appears that this design change has ensured that the OnePlus 10T will have “higher charging wattage, large battery capacity and better antenna signal”.

“We’re doubling the space required for the device’s charging pumps, limiting the space in the device by an alert slider,” the post added. In order to increase the battery capacity without making the phone thicker, OnePlus said the notification slider had to be removed.

And if you’re wondering how much space this alert slider takes up on the phone, OnePlus claims it has a “relatively large impact on the device’s motherboard – taking up 30mm”.

The OnePlus 10T comes with a glass back in two colors: Moonstone Black and Jade Green.
