‘Pant is overweight. Being bulky doesn’t give him much time’: Ex-PAK bowler | Cricket

Before the start of the T20 assignment against South Africa, maverick Rishabh Pant said he will make the most of his unexpected chance to become India captain after KL Rahul was ruled out due to injury. Four games later, the bat captain’s poor performance is a hot topic, especially as the Indian team tries to find the perfect eleven ahead of this year’s T20 World Cup in Australia. 24-year-old Pant tries to catch the ball that is not in his strike arc and has been caught in the deep end several times in the series. The Proteas bowlers plotted Pant’s sacking by holding on to a broad leash and the Indian looks to smooth out the chinks in the series decider in Bengaluru on June 19 (Sunday).

While the focus remains on Pant’s leadership and lean patch with the willow, former Pakistani tweaker Danish Kaneria has also pointed to a wicketkeeping foul. Kaneria feels that Pant doesn’t squat behind the sticks much because of his weight.

“I want to talk about Pant’s wicketkeeping. I’ve noticed one thing: he doesn’t squat lower or tiptoe when a fast bowler is bowling. It looks like he’s overweight and because he’s bulky, he doesn’t have that much time to get up quickly. He is concerned about his condition. Is he 100 percent fit? But when it comes to his captaincy, bowlers and batters including Hardik and Karthik have supported him well. Pant also has a chance to become the first captain to win a T20 series against South Africa,” Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.

Kaneria further praised Dinesh Karthik, who picked up his first T20I fifty to add crucial runs to India’s tally in Rajkot. The in-form batter teamed up with Hardik Pandya and the pair revived the innings with a solid partnership of 65 runs.

Karthik knocked out nine fours and two sixes in his entertaining 55-run, while Hardik hit 46 of 31 balls.

“India had a really hard time, but Hardik and Karthik helped the team to 169. Karthik likes to sweep and use his feet. Everything went as he wanted. It was a ‘DK day’. He played with maturity. Hardik He also showed responsibility. He started carefully, but eventually produced big hits. He played a gem of a turn,” said Kaneria.
