Poco X4 GT arrives with Dimensity 8100, Poco F4 brings an SD870

The Poco family is growing today with two new members. One has a passion for gaming and brings the first 144Hz screen to the series, the other tries to be an all-rounder with its own “first” – the first OIS camera on a Poco phone.

Poco X4 GT

Normally, the F series is the pride of the Poco line. However, the Poco X4 GT comes with the exciting Dimensity 8100 – a mid-range chipset born in TSMC’s 5nm factories with four Cortex-A78 cores and a new Mali-G610 MC6 GPU. This chip has had some impressive results and tends to outperform the Snapdragon 870 (and it can hold its own against the 888 too).

The GT has a passion for gaming, which is evident in the 144Hz display – the fastest refresh rate in the family. The touch sampling rate is 270 Hz. This is a 6.6-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,460px (20.5:9) and can display 1 billion colors (it also supports Dolby Vision). Peak brightness is 650 nits (typically 500 nits) and the panel uses DC dimming. Also, it is guarded by Gorilla Glass 5 (the X3 GT had Victus).

Returning to the chipset, it uses LiquidCool Technology 2.0 for heat management with a vapor chamber that is 32% larger than on the X3 GT, plus there are now 7 layers of graphite.

The chipset is paired with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Poco has listened to your demands and brought back the 3.5mm headphone jack. This means you don’t have to worry about Bluetooth latency and you can charge your phone while you play. Speaking of which, the phone has a 5,080 mAh battery that charges at 67 W with the included power adapter. A full charge from 0-100% takes 46 minutes. This battery is big enough to binge videos for 22 hours. In addition to headphones, you can also use the Dolby Atmos-certified double speakers.

The screen is slightly larger than last year’s model, making Poco more than a millimeter wide, making the device more comfortable to hold. The weight increased slightly to 200 g (against 193 g). The X4 GT is available in black, blue and silver.

The GT model is equipped with a 64MP camera with a larger sensor than last year (1/1.72”, 0.8 µm native pixels, 1.6 µm with binning). It is accompanied by an 8 MP 120° ultra-wide angle camera (1.12 µm), plus a 2 MP macro camera. On the front is a 20MP selfie camera (1/3.06”, 1.0µm).

A few more things to note. The first is the side-mounted fingerprint reader. Second is the X axis linear motor. Wireless connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi 6(ax), Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and there’s even an IR blaster, of course.

Poco F4

The Snapdragon 870 was good enough for last year’s F3, is it good enough for the new Poco F4? That remains to be seen – the focus on the F4 was to improve the camera and battery technology. If you want advanced performance, the F4 GT has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

Back to the Poco F4. It is the first in the family to feature optical image stabilization (OIS). Other than that, the main camera is nothing to write home about with its 1/2” sensor (0.7 µm pixels, 1.4 µm with binning) and f/1.8 aperture. As on the X4 GT, it is accompanied by an 8 MP ultra-wide (119°) and 2 MP macro modules on the back and a 20 MP selfie camera on the front.

In terms of charging, the battery is essentially the same capacity as the F3, 4,500mAh. However, the charging power has doubled to 67 W (adapter included), an increase of 33 W. This has reduced the full charge time from 0-100% from 52 minutes to 38 minutes.

The screen is the same as last year: a 6.67-inch AMOLED (Samsung E4) with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a touch frequency of 360 Hz. It has a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400px (20:9) and a peak brightness of 1,300 nits (typically 900 nits). This is an HDR10+ display that now also supports Dolby Vision. Physical protection is provided by Gorilla Glass 5. Poco claims professional color matching with the TrueColor feature, but provided no deltaE numbers.

Like its sibling, the F4 has a side-mounted fingerprint reader and a linear motor on the X-axis. It also has dual Dolby Atmos speakers, but no 3.5mm jack. However, it does have an IR blaster.
