There is no end to discussions and subsequent comparisons about the Indian and Pakistani cricket team. And with the two teams now only playing in multinational tournaments, debates and discussions surrounding a possible ICC or Asia Cup tournament clash are starting months before their planned clash, due to the mounting political tensions between the two nations. And former Pakistani skipper Rashid Latif made his prediction on Thursday about the 2022 Asian Cup, which starts from August 27.
Rashid labeled the Babar Azam-led Pakistani side as the better team compared to India and so backed the Men in Green to beat India and clinch the Asian Cup.
“India is a good team without a doubt, but there is no example of the way Pakistan currently plays cricket,” the former Pakistani cricketer told Cricket Pakistan’s website. “Pakistan has players like Shaheen Shah Afridi, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan who are currently listed as the best players by ICC.”

The veteran cricketer went on to explain that Pakistan’s historic 10-wicket win against India in the 2021 T20 World Cup should give them the confidence to take a similar win in Asia Cup as well.
“I am hopeful that Pakistan will win the 2022 Asian Cup. The win against India in the recent 2021 T20 WorldCup has boosted hopes for Pakistan. No doubt other teams are also competitive, but the main competition in AsiaCup 2022 would be between India and Pakistan,” Rashid said.
The 2022 Asia Cup will be played in the T20I format, with India leading 6-2 in a draw against Pakistan. The two teams have only faced each other once in Asia Cup in T20I format, in 2016 when India had won by 5 wickets in Mirpur. Overall, India led 8-5 in Asian Cup against their arch-rivals in 15 draws.
