Real Madrid’s search for a new striker is now complete. Initially in the window, Los Blancos scouted young players from leagues around the world. Now, however, the club is beginning to look back at former players and academy graduates.
According to reports from Diario AS, Raul de Tomas is on the Spanish club’s list. The striker is waiting for an offer from Real Madrid although he has several proposals on the table.
Espanyol is looking to get around €25-30 million back from his sale, a fee that could be considered a bargain for a player of such quality.
The 27-year-old graduated from the Castilla, but never made it to the first team before Los Blancos. After playing on loan at Cordoba, Real Valladolid and Rayo Vallecano, he left in 2019 for a permanent transfer to Benfica.
A year later, de Tomas returned to La Liga by playing at Espanyol in January 2020 for a fee of €20 million. In his first season back in Spain, he scored four goals for the Catalan club.
In 2021/22, RDT played 34 games for Espanyol, scoring 17 goals and providing the team with three assists. He almost single-handedly helped his club escape relegation.
The other options on Ancelotti’s list are Chelsea’s Timo Werner and FSV Mainz 05’s Jonathan Burkardt.
While the Germans may seem like eye-catching options on paper, the Spaniard’s familiarity with the system could give him an edge in securing the move to Santiago Bernabeu.
