Payne was part of two previous England squads without playing: against Pakistan in last summer’s ODI series and in the T20I series of five matches in the Caribbean earlier this year. He hasn’t played a List A game since 2019 but impressed in the T20 Blast, taking 17 wickets in seven games for Gloucestershire this summer.
Klaassen missed the first two games to play for Kent in the Blast, but was fired from their team on Tuesday-evening to play against Gloucestershire, while Van Meekeren was unavailable due to injury.
