Rahul Dravid had taken over the reins of Team India after the T20 World Cup in the UAE and under his tenure the Men in Blue defeated New Zealand, Sri Lanka and the West Indies in white-ball series, while the T20I series against South India. Africa ended in a 2–2 draw, with the last game halted due to rain. There was disappointment, however, when Team India lost the Away Test and ODI series against South Africa earlier this year. Before the start of the fifth T20I against the Proteas in Bengaluru, Dravid kicked off his coaching stint so far with the seniors, making a hilarious comment along the way.

“It was quite exciting, it was a lot of fun. The trip was also challenging, there have probably been six captains in the last eight months that I have had to work with, which was probably not the plan when I first started but the nature COVID and the nature of some of the games we play,” Dravid told Star Sports presenter before the start of the fifth T20I.

“You know managing the squad, managing the workload of the players and also some changes in captaincy, so I was supposed to work with a few people. It was challenging but it was also very nice.” said Dravid.

“A lot of other guys have been given opportunities to lead and to just create more leaders in the group for us. As a group, we are constantly learning and over the past 8-10 months we’ve had the opportunity to try more people out, which is my opinion was great. When I look back on the past 8 months, South Africa was a disappointment in terms of the test series,” he added.

Dravid talked about Ravi Shastri as the coach of the senior national side. Dravid’s first assignment last year was the T20I series against New Zealand.
