On Thursday, Sanjay Dutt shared a comment about: shamsherathe shocking response from the box office, and director Karan Malhotra and Ranbir Kapoor get “hate” from the audience. The actor, who plays the antagonist Daroga Shuddh Singh in the film, wrote that: shamshera is a “labor of love” and that the film is made of “blood, sweat and tears.” He spoke of the film’s failure and spoke of the hatred it has received – “Shamshera found that a lot of people hated it; some of the hatred came from people who didn’t even watch the film. I think it’s terrible that people don’t’ don’t respect the hard work we’ve all done.”
He said that director Karan Malhotra is one of the most hardworking directors he has worked with and stands by during this period. “I admire Karan as a filmmaker and above all as a person. He is one of the best directors I have worked with in my long career spanning four decades. He has a gift for giving characters that strike a chord.”
The actor was referring to Karan’s 2012 film. Agneepath, in which Sanjay Dutt played the antagonist Kancha Cheena. “We did that with Agneepath, where he gave me Kancha Cheena to play. The process of working on it was brilliant. He trusted me again shamshera and what a time we had making this movie and bringing Shuddh Singh to life. Karan is like family and regardless of success or failure, it will always be an honor to work with him. I am always by his side,” reads an excerpt from the statement.
Sanjay Dutt added that he stands firmly behind the film, writing:shamshera will one day find its tribe, but until that happens, I will remain resolute with the film, the memories we created, the bond we shared, the laughs we had, the hardships we went through.”
The KGF: Chapter 2 actor thanked the cast and crew for working on the project during the pandemic and gave a shout-out to Ranbir Kapoor, who also received hate for his performance. shamshera is Ranbir’s return to the big screen after Sanjuc (2018).
“I thank the entire unit – cast and crew of the film who stayed with the film for four years, during the pandemic, during my own personal hard times. Ranbir and I have bonded for life with this film. His craftsmanship and “ability to emotionally portray on screen is par excellence. It hurts to see people so eager to spew hate on the work of one of the most hardworking and talented actors of our time,” wrote Sanjay Dutt.
He concluded his note by writing that the love he feels for the film goes beyond hate. “Art and our dedication to it transcend the hatred that comes our way. The love we feel for the film and its people goes beyond anything that is said. Baaki kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna!He ended with the hashtag #ShamsheraIsOurs.
shamshera also stars Vaani Kapoor. Earlier today, director Karan Malhotra shared a note apologizing for “leaving” the film because he couldn’t handle the “hate and anger” of the past few days. “I want to apologize unimaginably for letting you down for the past few days because I couldn’t handle the hate and anger. My withdrawal was my weakness and there are no excuses for it,” he wrote.
shamshera characterizes Ranbir as a dacoit. The film, which was released on July 22, failed to impress audiences and critics.
