Shamshera’s director Karan Malhotra addresses film’s failure at the box office

Filmmaker Karan Malhotra’s film Shamshera was released on July 22. The film starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt performed poorly at the box office. After underperforming last weekend, the film started Monday with another 65% drop in profits. Karan spoke in his Instagram post on Wednesday about the film’s failure, saying he “couldn’t handle the hatred and anger” following the film’s failure. Addressing Shamshera’s failure, Karan shared a note on his Instagram handle, captioning it, “Shamshera is mine.” His note reads: “My dear Shamshera, you are majestic as you are. It is important for me to express myself on this platform because here is where all the love, the hate, the celebration and the humiliation for you exists. I want I can’t imagine apologizing to you for letting you down for the past few days because I couldn’t handle the hate and anger.”

According to a report from, after a huge 65% drop on Monday, Shamshera dropped further at the box office on the fifth day (Tuesday). The movie was added on Tuesday just 2.50 crore on the total collection, which is now on 36 million.

Shamshera is set in the 1800s in the fictional city of Kaza, where a warrior tribe is imprisoned, enslaved and tortured by a ruthless authoritarian General Shudh Singh (played by Sanjay Dutt). It is the story of Shamshera (Ranbir Kapoor), who became a slave, a slave who became a leader, and then a legend for his tribe. He fights for the freedom and dignity of his tribe. The film was released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
