The ongoing five-game ODI run between Sri Lanka and Australia has turned interesting as the Dasun Shanaka-led side have come back with two consecutive wins after losing the first game to the guests. While the Lankans lost the T20I series to Australia 1-2, they now have a good chance to take the ODI series and avenge the defeat. Much was at stake when the two teams met on Sunday for the third ODI, but it was umpire Kumar Dharmasena, who received more attention than any Sri Lankan or Australian player.
Dharmasena caught his eye when he nearly made a flyout during the match while umpire on the leg side.
During Australia’s at bat, Alex Carey shorted out to square-leg umpire Dharmasena, whose reflexes forced him to make a try. But Dharmasena soon realized that he was the referee in the match and not a field player. At the very last moment, he withdrew from the line of the ball.
