To be cheaper than the Hyundai Creta

Maruti Suzuki unveiled the Grand Vitara mid-sized SUV a week ago and is expected to officially reveal pricing sometime in early September, when the actual launch will take place. Even before the official launch, the prices of the Maruti Grand Vitara seem to have been leaked by the FinancialExpress. However, we cannot vouch for the authenticity of the leaked prices.

Crete prices start from Rs. 10.44 million. Notably, this is a similar strategy Maruti Suzuki employed with the S-Cross, which was priced significantly lower than the Creta. Notably, the Grand Vitara replaces the S-Cross in Maruti Suzuki’s NEXA lineup. Bookings for the Grand Vitara are now open to all NEXA dealers.

According to the leaked price figures, the Grand Vitara with mild hybrid engine will be offered in 5 versions, divided into 8 variants. Aside from the Sigma trim, the manual transmission-equipped variants will also be available in Delta, Zeta, Alpha and Alpha AWD trims. The 6-speed automatic transmission with torque converter is offered with the Zeta and Alpha trim levels. The manual variants will have a 5-speed gearbox. The 1.5 liter 4-cylinder K15C petrol engine (102 Bhp-135 Nm) will be offered with both gearboxes.

Variant Price
Zeta Plus Rs 17.00 lakh
Alpha Plus Rs 18.00 lakh

The Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid will be sold in Zeta Plus and Alpha Plus trims and will be priced at Rs. 17 lakh and Rs. 18 lakh respectively. The Grand Vitara’s Strong Hybrid powertrain is a 1.5-litre petrol engine from Toyota (91 hp-122 Nm) mated to an electric motor (78 hp-141 Nm). A five-speed CVT automatic gearbox drives the front wheels.

Through the unveiling, Maruti Suzuki has given us a glimpse of the generous trim levels of the top-of-the-line Grand Vitara. A panoramic sunroof that is the largest in its class, ventilated seats, 360-degree camera, four-wheel drive, all-electric mode, an exceptional fuel consumption of around 28 kmpl in the strong hybrid are just some of the main highlights of the upcoming SUV. If Maruti Suzuki does indeed manage to price the Grand Vitara at the levels indicated by these leaked prices, he has a big winner on his hands.

Meanwhile, Toyota will launch the Hyryrder Urban Cruiser SUV in India on August 16. The Hyryder and the Grand Vitara are the same SUVs, except for the styling and badging. Both SUVs will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi plant, near Bengaluru. The Hyryder’s introductory price should give us a good indication of what to expect from the Grand Vitara.
