Twitter Reacts As Sanju Samson Saves A Crucial Boundary In The Final Over To Help India With A 3-Run Win Over West Indies

Twitter was buzzing with the rescue of Sanju Samson in the final of the 1st ODI played between India and the West Indies at Spain’s port in Trinidad. Sanju Samson cashed in on a dive saver while holding wickets in the last over of the game as the West Indies needed just 15 runs in the last over from Mohammed Siraj with 4 wickets in hand.

Team India lost the toss and was invited by Caribbean skipper Nicholas Pooran to bat first. Captain Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill gave India the perfect start as they expand an age-old chasm. Shikhar Dhawan missed his century by just 3 runs as he was sacked on 97 runs, which was his 6th sack in the nervous 90s.

Shreyas Iyer also scored a great half-century and after Iyer’s wicket, the Indian batter collapsed with a few contributions from Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda. Axar Patel also managed to score 21 runs with a strike rate of 100 and team India finished in 308 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 50 overs.

The West Indians gave chase and dealt an early blow in the form of Shai Hope. Shamarh Brooks and Kyle Mayers, however, formed a 100-run partnership for the second wicket and provided stability in the West Indian innings. Brandon King also scored a massive half-century as the West Indies cruised toward goal.

Fireworks from Romario Shepherd towards the end of the West Indian innings brought them the win. In the final over of the game, the Windies needed just 15 runs with the set pair of Akeal Hosein and Romario Shepherd leading. Without Sanju Samson’s dive save on the 5th delivery of the final over, the ball would have traveled to the border and India could have lost the game.

In the end, India managed to win the match by a narrow margin of just 3 runs and Twitter were ecstatic with Sanju Smason’s brilliant save in the final. Here are the best responses:
