Virat Kohli Among India Test Stars Hit by Covid After Landing in England, Tour Match in Doubt: Report

Team India’s preparations ahead of the rescheduled Birmingham Test against England, which starts on July 1, have been dealt a huge blow as some team members have contracted Covid-19.

On Tuesday, several media reports claimed top spinner Ravichandran Ashwin missed the flight to England after returning a positive test. And now, a report in the Times of India stated that former Indian captain Virat Kohli was also affected by the virus after arriving in London a few days ago.

“Yes, Virat was also hit by Covid after returning from a holiday in the Maldives, but he has now recovered,” said a source.

“This now means that India’s tour match against Leicestershire from June 24 will not be as intense as coach Rahul Dravid wanted as the medical advice is not to overload the players after they have had Covid-19. There could be more Covid cases in the team,” the source said.

Kohli’s recovery from Covid is certainly a good sign for the visitors who are already leading the five-match test series 2-1. On Wednesday, Kohli also shared his photos from the Indian training session ahead of the rescheduled test.

“Practice well. Stay happy,” he wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, several pictures have surfaced on social media where people like Kohli and Captain Rohit Sharma could be clicked with fans.

According to a report by Zee News, the duo went shopping in London on Sunday, which was a rough day for the squad.

Amid all these reports, there is no official word from the BCCI about the entire episode.

It has also been learned that Ashwin will soon be joining the squad in London. New travel arrangements are being made for the veteran cricketer and he should be with the rest of his teammates soon.

Jayant Yadav was kept on standby if Ashwin failed to recover in time. The Haryana spinner was called to the NCA in Bangalore. However, that option has now been ruled out as Ashwin has made a full recovery and is expected to fly within 24 hours, most likely on Wednesday.

Dravid has joined the Rohit Sharma and Co when the BCCI posted a few photos on their Twitter handle where the head coach addressed the team in a huddle. The Indian players have already started training in Leicester when they posted a video and some photos of their training session on Monday.
