Volta Trucks completes first customer evaluation of the full-electric Volta Zero

Volta Trucks, the leading and pioneering manufacturer and service provider of all-electric commercial vehicles, has completed its first evaluation and feedback sessions for customers of the Volta Zero Design Verification prototype

Volta Trucks, the leading and pioneering manufacturer and service provider of all-electric commercial vehicles, has completed its first evaluation and feedback sessions for customers of the Volta Zero Design Verification prototype. The review gave customers their first experience with the zero-emission medium-duty truck designed for city logistics, offering a realistic insight into the vehicle’s performance, the first driver-focused cab and innovative safety features.

The review event, held at UTAC Autodrome de Linas-Montlhery in Paris, marks the company’s latest milestone on its accelerated journey to bring zero-emission trucks to market at an industry-leading pace. Design Verification’s prototype vehicles took a break from their rigorous testing regime to conduct the review event, integrating customer feedback into the next-generation production verification prototype vehicles. Construction of the product verification will start in the summer at the company’s contract manufacturing facility in Steyr, Austria.

These production verification prototypes will be on long-term loan to customers later in 2022 to help them understand how all-electric medium-duty trucks will be integrated into their operations. Production of the first customer-specific vehicles is still on track to start in early 2023.

Speaking at the review event in UTAC, Paris, Volta Trucks Chief Executive Officer Essa Al-Saleh said; †Today is a huge moment for Volta Trucks, our customers and the decarbonisation and sustainability of our cities. Since the unveiling of the Volta Zero in September 2020, we’ve worked at an industry-leading pace to bring the vehicle to market because that’s what our customers demand. It’s the best example of the speed at which we’re working to get them to evaluate prototypes of all-electric trucks in less than 2 years since we unveiled the demonstration vehicle, and less than 18 months since the actual engineering project began. These are very early and relatively immature prototypes, which customers normally never get to experience, but their feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. This gives us additional confidence and confirmation that we will be supplying our customers in large quantities with world-class zero-emissions commercial vehicles from early next year.”

In the Summer/Fall of 2022, the Volta Trucks European launch markets will host further customer evaluation events and test drives with media prototypes.
