Watch: Crowd Goes Wild As Sri Lanka Beat Australia To Win Historic Home ODI Series

It was a moment to cherish for a country going through a very difficult phase as the Sri Lanka national cricket team defeated Australia in the fourth ODI to seal the series 3-1 with one game to go. This is Sri Lanka’s first bilateral ODI series win domestically against the mighty Aussies in three decades.

A young Sri Lanka team has risen for the occasion to bring much joy to the fans of cricket as the whole country is going through a serious economic crisis.

A packed Premadasa stadium in the national capital, Colombo, rose and celebrated the huge victory alongside the players on the pitch.

After batting on Tuesday, Sri Lanka ran into problems at 3/34, but a 101-run partnership between Charith Asalanka (110 on 106) and Dhananjaya de Silva (60 on 61) helped the hosts score 258.

Australia had a rocky start, with skipper Aaron Finch being sacked over a duck, but his opening partner David Warner led their charge.

Despite a brilliant knockout, he was sacked at 99 and lack of support from the other side meant seeing them at home wasn’t enough.

There was, of course, a drama final, with Australia taking 19 runs and Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka bowling.

Matthew Kuhnemann managed to bring the game to the last pitch when he hit 14 of the first five balls of the over, leaving the visitors needing 5 to win the last pitch.

A boundary would also have balanced the match, but Shanaka managed to get him a catch to the cover fielder and seal a thrilling win.

Australia had won the first ODI, but Sri Lanka has come back strong to finish the series with one game to go.
