Who Gave Zawahiri’s Location to US? Afghan’s Defence or Foreign Affairs Minister? Pak Hand Clear

Who revealed the location of Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in Kabul, Afghanistan, to the United States? This is a question that haunts Afghanistan’s top Taliban leadership as it has shaken their reputation.

A US drone strike killed al-Zawahiri, a key conspirator of the 9/11 terrorist attacks who took over al-Qaeda’s leadership after the death of Osama bin Laden, at a hiding place in Afghanistan, President Joe Biden announced Monday. Al-Zawahiri was the No. 2 in al-Qaeda when the group carried out the September 11 terror attacks, and US officials viewed him as a central conspirator.

Although he lacked the charismatic leadership of bin Laden, his writings and arguments have profoundly influenced al-Qaeda and its terrorist movements.

The Taliban are discussing how to deal with this.

To say that they did not know of his presence would be a big lie, as the spot where he was murdered is just 600 meters from the presidential palace.

On the other hand, accepting that they knew would admit that they violated the agreement.

After the US drone strike that killed al-Zawahiri, members of the terror group’s Haqqani network tried to hide the fact that the al-Qaeda leader was inside the home in Kabul, which was allegedly owned by a top aide to Sirajuddin Haqqani. and restricted access. to the site, PTI said, citing a New York Times report.

Sirajuddin Haqqani is the Interior Minister in the Taliban government in Kabul.

The US alleges that the Taliban violated the peace agreement by letting Zawahiri into the country. The Taliban claim that the US has violated the peace agreement by carrying out a strike.

According to sources, Taliban founder Mullah Mohammad Omar had problems with the Haqqani Group. The Haqqani Network is an Islamist terror group founded by Jalaluddin Haqqani, who emerged as a top Afghan warlord and insurgent commander during the anti-Soviet war.

It is suspected that Mullah Yaqoob, the Afghan defense minister and son of the late Taliban founder Mullah Omar, disclosed Zawahiri’s location during his recent visit to Qatar, sources said.

Another person suspected of leaking the information is Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. Muttaqi has properties, real estate and many other business interests in Pakistan.

According to sources, Afghanistan is clear that Pakistan has leaked the location.

Sources claim the move helped Pakistan secure the USD 25 million bounty on Zawahiri, the loan from the International Monetary Fund and the approval of the Financial Action Task Force.

According to leading intelligence sources, Zawahiri was in Karachi and was moved to Kabul via the Chaman border. Only the Haqqani Network was aware of this, sources said, adding that even Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Ghani Baradar was not aware of it.

His assassination in Kabul testifies not only to the porous border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, but also to Al Qaida’s decades of use of facilities, homes, buildings and land in both countries, the NYT report said, citing a American official. .

And unlike the relatively sleepy city of Abbottabad, Pakistan, where bin Laden was killed in a commando attack in 2011, his successor apparently spent the last weeks of his life right in the Afghan capital, it said.
