Ms. Marvel revealed how Kamala’s family got the bracelet, but it wasn’t the only one. Whose did the mysterious blue arm attached to the bracelet belong to?
Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Mrs. Marvel episode 3.
Mrs. Marvel has revealed how Kamala Khan’s (Iman Vellani) family found her bracelet, but a severed blue arm in episode 3 has led to more questions and theories than answers. In Mrs. Marvel season 1, episode 3, “Destined”, a prologue set in 1942, reveals that Kamala’s great-grandmother, Aisha (Mehwish Hayat), is looking for bracelets in British-occupied India. Although it appears that the British have already looted the cave, Aisha and her colleagues find the bracelet, but it is on a severed arm under the rubble.
In Mrs. Marvel’s season 1, episode 2, “Crushed”, Kamala is rescued from the Department of Damage Control by Kamran (Rish Shah), who then introduces Kamala to his mother, Najma (Nimra Bucha). Najma tells Kamala the story of her great grandmother and the bracelet in Mrs. Marvel season 1, episode 3, “Destined”, revealing that the bracelet may be their way home, before explaining that they are from another dimension and are known as Djinn.
The most likely explanation for the severed arm is that the wearer was also a Djinn. In the original Marvel comics, the Djinn appeared as blue-colored entities, which could explain the blue arm found in Mrs. Marvel† The Djinn have many different powers, some of which are stronger than others. While some are able to live freely, others are forced to serve under the command of another and may be bound to objects such as books or lamps. But while a Djinn’s arm is the most likely explanation, the blue arm and bracelet could also still be a link to the origin of Kamala Khan’s comic book.
Another explanation for the blue arm in Mrs. Marvel it could be from a Kree. Kree is a blue-skinned race of aliens from the planet Hala. They are scientifically and technologically advanced, so the bracelet can be their technology. If the hand is of Kree origin, it could be a Marvel connection to Inhumans, which were created by the Kree who experimented with ancient humans. This could also explain why Kamala can’t access her powers without the bracelet. Since Kree created the Inhumans and Inhumans couldn’t access their powers without Terrigenesis, a ritual that causes a mutation in Inhumans to reveal their powers, the bracelet may be a kind of Terrigen mist that activates her powers. Most of the Kree are blue in the MCU, and they’ve made Inhumans, so the Kree are one, albeit less likely explanation of who the arm might belong to.
However, the scene where Aisha discovers the bracelet also contains a hidden reference to: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which contradicts this theory† In the cave where the bracelet and the blue arm can be found, there is a symbol of the ten rings on the floor. Captain Marvel has previously explained in the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings mid-credits scene that the rings were unlike any alien tech she’d ever seen, so if the bracelet and the ten rings are related, it’s likely they both aren’t alien tech.
Significant changes have been made to Mrs. Marvel‘s powers and parentage, making it unclear whether Kamala is still an Inhuman, as in the comics. If the blue arm on the bracelet is confirmed to be Kree, it could be Marvel’s confirmation that Kamala is Inhuman. However, with the connections between Mrs. Marvel and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringss and the revelation that Kamala and her family are Djinn, the blue arm probably belongs to another Djinn, meaning the MCU probably diverges from Kamala’s comic book origins.
