Why is Twitter Now Boycotting Alia Bhatt For Her Upcoming Movie ‘Darlings’?

Following Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, netizens are now ‘boycotting’ actress Alia Bhatt for ‘promoting’ domestic violence against men in her upcoming film ‘Darlings’. The film is slated for a August 5 release on Netflix. Bhatt is not only the main character but also marks her debut as a producer. The actress co-produced the film with Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment. The film also stars Vijay Verma, Shefali Shah and Roshan Matthew.

The online outcry comes in the wake of some scenes in the film where Bhatt’s character tortures her husband Vijay Varma on-screen.

“Everyone should do #BoycottAliaBhatt for making a misandrist movie like Darlings. For bollywood, domestic violence against men is a joke. Pathetic,” one Twitter user wrote.

Another user mentioned how the patriarchy is coming back as a “cancer and metastasis in court rulings”. The person wrote: “Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt produces and performs in #Darlings endorsing Assault on Domestic Violence on Husbands while the nation remains silent. This whole victimhood is a puppet show.”

This comes just a day after Alia Bhatt’s ‘Darlings’ team released the song La Ilaaj from the film. Speaking at the event, composer Vishal Bhardwaj said the film’s co-producer, Shah Rukh Khan, loved the song so much that he sang it to the composer over a phone call. He said: ‘Shah Rukh called me one evening around 12-12:30 pm. He started singing the song on the phone. He sang the whole song. Then he started telling the meaning of it… He said ‘It would have been more fun if the song had been for me’.
